Three men who experienced prison life, have created ‘life after prison maps' of Cork that reveal a personal picture of homelessness in the city.

University College Cork (UCC) announces today that it is to repatriate a number of objects in its Heritage Collection to the Egyptian State.

The items in question include mummified human remains, a sarcophagus, a set of four Canopic jars, and items of cartonnage (coverings) dating variously from 100AD to about 975BCE. UCC came into possession of the mummified remains by donation in 1928.

An inspirational leader in the field of medicine has been awarded an honorary doctorate by University College Cork (UCC), as close to 200 medical students graduated from the university today.

Dr. Veronica Delaney grew up in Cork city and graduated with a B.Sc Honours majoring in Biochemistry from UCC in 1964. She would go onto become a leader in her field. Dr Delaney (78) is currently Professor of Medicine and Nephrologist at Mount Sinai Hospital New York, and was the first member of her family to enter University.

University College Cork’s Professor Barry O’Sullivan has been elected a Fellow of the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI) -  the first time that someone based at an Irish university has been recognised in this way. Flying reptiles could change the colour of their feathers, research finds 

An international team of palaeontologists has discovered remarkable new evidence that pterosaurs, the flying relatives of dinosaurs, were able to control the colour of their feathers using melanin pigments.

The study, published today in the journal Nature, was led by University College Cork (UCC) palaeontologists Dr Aude Cincotta (UCC & Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences) and Prof. Maria McNamara and Dr Pascal Godefroit from the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences, with an international team of scientists from Brazil and Belgium.

A group of women from the Travelling Community yesterday graduated at a conferring ceremony at UCC having completed a ‘life-changing’ course designed to empower leadership in their community.

Developed in response to community need, the Level 6 Leadership in the Community programme was co-created by the Southern Traveller Health Network (STHN); Adult and Continuing Education (ACE) and supported by Access UCC and funded by the SOAR Project. In response to conflicts across the world, University College Cork (UCC) today announces that it has created a Sanctuary Fellowship Scheme.

Through this scheme scholars and staff members from universities, and other third level institutes outside of Ireland, who are at risk as a result of conflict or other serious human rights violations can apply for a six month fellowship in UCC. This year on International Women's Day (IWD)  “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”. Advancing gender equality in the context of the climate crisis and disaster risk reduction is one of the greatest global challenges of the 21st century. Women are increasingly being recognized as more vulnerable to climate change impacts than men, as they constitute the majority of the world’s poor and are more dependent on the natural resources which climate change threatens the most.

University College Cork and the School of History is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Emeritus Professor John A. Murphy.

A name synonymous with our University, Prof. Murphy had an association �������� that spans over seven decades, beginning in 1945 when he left his native and beloved Macroom to study History and Latin here as a scholarship student.

A third of medieval European literature has been lost 

Stories of Vikings, monarchs and thrones may dominate streaming services, but an international team of researchers has found that a third of tales of medieval heroism and chivalry, more than 90% of European manuscripts from the Middle Ages and over 3,000 medieval Irish-language manuscripts have been lost over time.

Two UK-based Irish footballers have paid tribute to the partnership between University College Cork (UCC) and Cork City FC - an association that aided them in attaining degrees while still pursuing their dream careers as professional athletes.

Researchers at University College Cork (UCC) examined the views of 120 households with low disposable income who are clients of the North Dublin  to ascertain if they could engage with Government supports to retrofit homes.
