UCC announces new teaching bursaries

University College Cork (UCC) has launched a substantial new bursary fund to the value of 鈧337,000 aimed at widening participation and furthering access to academia for students from under-represented socio-economic backgrounds.
These bursaries are made possible through the generosity of esteemed educator, Dr Mary Barry Wall, a former Senior Lecturer in the School of Education at UCC. After a lifetime of teaching in the university, Dr Barry Wall鈥檚 impact continues with a total of 23 UCC Access students expected to benefit from the annual Dr Mary Barry Wall Bursaries. The bursaries will help students to pursue a primary degree in the Humanities and then, if they so wish, follow a career in teaching through the Professional Masters in Education (PME).
Professor John O鈥橦alloran, President of UCC, paid tribute to Dr Barry Wall; 鈥淒r Barry continues to leave a lasting legacy on Ireland鈥檚 teaching profession and we thank her for this generosity.鈥 Dr Fiona Chambers, Head of School of Education UCC, highlighted the significance of the new bursary fund: 鈥淭his generous gift will allow students to realise their dream to be a teacher by following the Master鈥檚 in Education Programme and to inspire future generations鈥.
The bursaries will be administered by UCC Access.
